CASSANDRA HOUR GLASS
It’s not the point anymore to debate about the opportunity to manage the impact of the climate change and the life-threatening situation. New studies are coming up every week and the IPCC and IPBES are on a regular basis reporting the up to date analysis.
2018 and even more 2019 with extreme weather events showed us the urgent need for action while the average temperature “only” increased by 1 degree.
We know that in order not to go above the target temperature increase of 1.5 – 2 degrees maximum by 2030, we need to reduce by 45% the gas emissions before 2030 and start decreasing the worldwide emissions after the peak anticipated for 2020.
However, despite the scientific alarming reports, nothing catches enough our attention, individually or collectively!
It is why we need a place, a symbol to remind us the constant urgency and to materialise the time impact and the need to act within the window of the remaining time before it is too late.It is impossible to find future economic models, development models, it is impossible to change our ways of living and evolving without having in mind our biodiversity is on the verge of collapse and the planet « is burning »!! this window of remaining time.

THE PROJECT
The purpose of the project is to make people realise the real urgence of the situation through to the creation of a symbolic place:
- A place showing the real scientific data counting down in real time the remaining global CO2 budget: (level of CO2 and other greenhouse gas).
- A place to make people aware of the impact of our excessive ways of living on a generous but not unlimited planet
- A place to understand the changes we need to make and the actions we need to take.
- A place to meet and organise events around the current situation and the required changes.
A Symbol
- To illustrate that the clock is running, we have chosen the Hour-Glass (Cassandra)
- Whatever the shape the symbolic Hour-Glass will have, it will be first a light house in the city, symbolising our acceptation of the reality !
- A countdown in real time showing the pressing time, hoping that it will make us react and move.
- A countdown which places us in front of the urgency to take action and consider the real situation of our society focusing so far on the unlimited growth.
- A symbolic object for a symbolic place for an immediate and sustainable change of our current destructive model, “never enough and always more”.

OUR MISSION
The Cassandra Hour-Glass is composed of people from the civil society (scientists, philosophs, economists and others) convinced by the need to popularise the scientific data about the climate change to the general public, to inform about the urgent need to take action and to support action plans through the Hour-Glass symbol and the events around it.
The Cassandra Hour-Glass association meets this mission of general interest :- in a transparent way with the association adherents, finance supporters, employees, permanent employees and volunteers
- in respect of the democratic rules with a regular assessment approach of its social utility
- is a non-profit association
- is apolitical and without religious affiliation
À partir du 01 OCTOBRE 2023 , notre organisation sera désormais située à l'adresse suivante :
